any cultures view the circle as the perfect form, reflecting the shape of
the earth ... the unity of mankind ... the cyclical nature of life. Eli Mordehay, principal of LaStrada Furniture &
Interiors, lead designer Ira Cohen and the company's design team embraced this ideal shape to create a serene, spa-like
atmosphere in this Toscana condominium in Highland Beach. Gently rounded furnishings and gracefully curved
architectural details further allude to the circular motif. "We wanted to create a retreat without blaring colors or
distractions, but with calming details," Cohen says. "The palette is very soothing, and the natural materials and light
colors reflect the ocean."
Mordehay notes that the use
of angles and custom furniture makes the space seem much larger. "The clients also wanted to take advantage of our
reputation for innovative automation, so we integrated many unusual concepts, including space-saving features and
automated state-of-the-art electronics," he adds.
In the living room, for
example, the owners wanted the furniture to be oriented to take advantage of the magnificent ocean views, as well as
face the media center. Mordehay and his team solved the dilemma by designing a revolving platform that, at the touch of
a button, allows the owners to enjoy whichever view they desire.
