A MAJESTIC MANOR COMMANDS
ATTENTION WITH ITS CLASSIC ARCHITECTURE Cheryl
Swinney
...from previous page "The owners wanted a ceiling based
on European treatments, particularly those found in French chateaux in the 17th
and 18th centuries," Prelogar says. "Their research uncovered a stunning
example in a photograph that we were able to duplicate."
For the home's primary color
scheme, the owners requested a Renaissance palette inspired by the paintings of
Raphael and Titian. Such coloration comes to life in the ruby red-and-gold area
rug and runner in the palatial foyer.
In the living room, red, gold and
other jewel tones impart an air of regal elegance. Twin sofas upholstered in
striped silk pair with tapestry-covered armchairs in front of a marble
fireplace. Like the fireplace, the wood flooring and ceiling are original to
the house.
A striking blue and gold palette,
reminiscent of The White House Blue Room, defines the library. "The real muse
for this space was the sapphire-blue drapery fabric," Swinney says. Once a
music/sitting room, the space lacked the requisite bookshelves, so Prelogar and
Swinney designed cherry-wood cabinetry with ebony and gold-leaf accents.
