Design professionals throughout the state of Florida were honored at the Midnight Affair Design Excellence Awards held in February 2003. Hosted by Dacra, developers of the Miami Design District, and Florida’s professional interior design organizations, the event attracted more than 600 attendees. Participating organizations included the American Society of Interior Designers, the International Interior Design Association, the International Design Association, the Interior Design Guild Foundation, the Interior Design Associations Foundation and The Bud Merle Foundation. Major sponsors, such as Florida Design and other publications and businesses in the industry, also generously supported the event.

A distinguished panel of 18 judges chose winners in both residential and commercial categories. Judges included Dakota Jackson, Juan Montoya, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, Margaret McCurry and other highly respected professionals in their field.

In addition to these design excellence awards, IDAF bestowed its “Chuck Levine-Charles Poole Legislative Service Award” and The Bud Merle Foundation presented its prestigious “Buddy Award.”

Lauraine Dunn-Glispin, a director emeritus of IDAF, was selected to receive this year’s “Chuck Levine-Charles Poole Legislative Service Award.” Recognized for her history of service over the past four decades, Dunn-Glispin remains active in the legislative process.

The “Buddy Award” went to Larry Wilson, of Rink Reynolds Diamond Fisher Wilson P.A. in Jacksonville, Fla. This award honors an individual designer whose career achievements and community service demonstrate outstanding professionalism and leadership. Wilson, who is currently chapter president of ASID North Florida, was recently appointed by the mayor of Jacksonville to the Commission of Art in Public Spaces.

The evening’s festivities concluded with attendees being treated to an array of gourmet delicacies.
