such as the hand-painted, groin-vaulted ceiling in the living room.
Columns with Venetian-like appliqués support the ceiling, whose Renaissance-inspired motif and palette establish the room’s Old World warmth. A chandelier with hurricanes casts soft light on the conversation area. Rich chenille in Mediterranean hues of burgundy, olive green and antique gold dresses the plump sofa, chairs and oversized chaise. In the background, a double-sided aquarium delights the eye with its underwater perspective.
An octagonal-shaped, recessed ceiling with pecky-cypress coffers makes a grand statement in the dining room. Stone corbels and hand-painted panels add dimension, while deep burgundy walls infuse the space with bold color.

A 15-foot glass-topped table with scrolled iron-and-wood bases serves as the room’s centerpiece. “The glass top was so heavy we had to use a crane to lift it over an upstairs balcony and into the house,” Lauree says. Surrounded by Tuscan-style chairs with green velvet backs and woven chenille fronts, the table is “big enough for everyone at the holidays,” Luxton says. A buffet and display cabinets enrich the space with their dark wood finishes.
Rosewood flooring, mahogany cabinetry and wood molding instill the library with a sense of tradition. A leather desk with burl inlays and claw-foot armchairs further the feel of a gentleman’s study.
