Richard J. Veller and Sandra Bronchello Welsh.
“We use a variety of styles and materials in our designs to achieve a ‘Florida feel,’ ” Welsh says.
In the living room, taupe cut chenille wraps the
sofa’s contemporary silhouette, while striped silk in coral, cream and teal hues dresses traditional armchairs. An oversized cocktail table combines tooled leather, marble, metal scrollwork and gold leafing.
Behind the sofa, a niche with diamond-shaped
beveled mirrors creates a dramatic focal point.
“With a 22-foot ceiling, the room is taller than it is wide,” Veller says. “So we used the beveled mirrors to visually expand the space.”

The living room opens to a gracefully curved
stairway with a wood-and-iron railing and handpainted tiles on the risers. At the top of the stairs is the loft, an informal space for casual get-togethers. Near the doors, the designers placed a game table and chairs, and in the space overlooking the living room, they positioned two bergères and a cocktail table. The seating faces custom cabinetry that houses a flat-panel TV.
Downstairs, the dining room is located opposite the living room. Here, a border of brown emperador marble surrounds an inlay of walnut saturnia marble, “defining the space in lieu of an area rug,” Welsh says.
