Previously, Green and Estreich teamed up to do
the couple’s main residence on Long Island and an apartment in New York City. For this retreat, the duo renovated the house, both inside and out.
Estreich, who worked with Brian M. Blackburn on the architecture, subtly modified the original Mediterranean-style structure by adding an arched entry portico. The interior, however, was completely gutted and reconfigured to accomplish two objectives — to open up the rooms for a view of the pool and lake, and to draw attention to the owners’ formidable art collection.

With these goals in mind, the couple became
an integral part of the design team, participating in nearly every aspect of the project. “As collectors, their foremost concern was that the space be conducive to displaying art in various forms, from ceiling-mounted installations, like the Chihuly piece in the foyer, to pieces on walls, pedestals, and tabletops,” Green says.
In addition to the artistic aspects of the project, the owners sought an inviting and comfortable living space in a Deco Modern style with a European sensibility.
