ABOVE: Larry Rivers’ “Camels II” hangs on the wall opposite the Buffet painting. Francisco Zuniga’s bronze sculpture of a woman, “Joven
Sentada,” sits pensively on a pedestal. Burke and Peter designed the chairs
for the two tables.

“The site gave us space to expand the
square footage and create large outdoor areas,”
Martin says. “Inside, the rooms were reconfigured to add volume while maintaining a comfortable environment for everyday living.”
Part of the plan called for a new wing to
accommodate the master suite. “This project
involved seamlessly blending a large addition
with an existing structure and making both
work in a unified way,” Knight says.
Careful thought was given to the placement
of the Cohens’ art by such renowned artists as
Fernando Botero, Jean Dubuffet, Alexander
Calder, Larry Rivers and more. Complementing
these masterpieces is an eclectic array of

furnishings custom designed by Burke and
Peter, as well as fine antiques. “A great home
tells the tale of the owners’ lives and the pieces they have collected over many years,” Peter says. “We wanted it to have a history, a story.”
A black, red, taupe and cream palette prevails
in the living room’s two sitting areas. “We
wanted the house to look as if it had been built
in the early 20th century with Oriental, European and early Modern influences,”
Peter says.
Wood screens with Hermés leather panels set off a Botero painting in one sitting area.
