“My design philosophy is simple — keep things classic and
understated,” says Paladino, whose inspiration for the cabinetry in the
library came from the square pattern in Israel’s artwork on the wall.

In the spacious living area, sofas and chairs with an Art Deco feel, Klismos-style benches, and chunky mahogany cocktail tables form two mirror-image conversation areas. “These styles perfectly echo the feeling of the interior architecture,” Paladino says. “And the furniture has enough mass relative to the size of the room to achieve the proper sense of scale.”

Fabrics with different textures lend subtle interest while keeping the focus on the owners’ works of art by Murray Israel, whose abstract creations appear in nearly every room of the house.

Just steps away, the dining area features the owners’ Donghia table, which Paladino modified to make more rectangular in shape and darker in tone. The owners’ reupholstered Philippe Starck chairs surround the table. “Starck’s designs all have whimsy, which adds a note of playfulness,” Paladino says.
