In the kitchen, dark mahogany cabinetry, granite countertops and richly veined carrera marble flooring come together, creating textural interest. The owners’ barstools at the breakfast bar and vintage clock on the wall keep the mood upbeat. “The kitchen is intended to feel like a bistro — lively, fun and comfortable,” Paladino says.

Paladino’s modern design direction takes a different turn in the master bedroom, where gray walls impart an air of serenity. “Gray is an unusual color for me to use in a bedroom, but it creates the perfect backdrop for the owners’ series of drawings above the bed,” Paladino says.

Tailored cream and gray bed coverings tuck into the bed, emphasizing its clean silhouette. Chinese cabinets at the foot of the bed lend a touch of Asian tranquility.

To create a grand master bath, Paladino reunited the separate his-and-hers baths. White thassos marble flooring contrasts with cherry-wood vanity and cabinetry.

The harmonious balance of clean lines and simple forms gives the home the sophisticated style that Paladino’s clients were seeking. “Good design,” Paladino says, “is best when elements are balanced, symmetrical and in harmony.”
