fmake their way to the formal dining room, where Hitchcock placed curvaceous furniture. “We had a large square room so we decided to round the corners to create a more intimate ambiance,” he says. A round walnut table that seats 10 accommodates large parties. “If we’re entertaining a larger group, we just add three more tables and comfortably seat 40,” the wife says.

Paneled walls, here and in the family room, provide the backdrop for oversized works of art. “We didn’t design the woodwork to fit the art,” Hitchcock says. “Since collectors are frequently adding new pieces, we displayed the paintings the way modern collections are hung in old chateaux in Europe.”In the family room, plump furniture dressed in a variety of patterns and textures invites comfort.

Lighter in hue with hand-painted floral wall covering, the luxurious master suite makes the husband “feel like I am waking up in a garden,” he says. Damasks, velvets and silks in teal and coral tones fashion the furnishings, while draperies striped in the room’s color scheme finish the look.

Just off the family room, the loggia provides pure luxury in an indoor/outdoor setting. Because of its proximity to the pool, Hitchcock chose dark taupe canvas furniture as a practical yet stylish alternative.

Inside and out, this French-Regency estate presents a masterful blend of art and design.
