In the library, a bronze tiger, leopard prints and a tiger-skin area rug speak to Robert’s love of hunting. “I waited a long time to get a room of my own,” he says.

The color palette deepens in the library, where turn-of-the-century references are most evident. Leet designed the space — which opens to a cigar room and wine room on the left — as a comfortable retreat for Robert, a hunter and cigar smoker. “For 30 years, my only room in the house had been the outdoors,” Robert says.

Faux-painted leather walls warm the room, while red, gold and animal-print fabrics enliven it. "The faux-leather walls and comfortable furnishings were meant to provide a haven for after-dinner cigar smoking," Leet says. Empire- and Directoire-style pieces, such as the chandelier and mid-17th-century chest, enhance the room's classic charm.
