Gem-colored
hues paint the approach to the western-most part of Florida’s
Panhandle known as the Emerald Coast. Powdery-white dunes, vast stands
of pine forests and crystalline Gulf waters line this unparalleled stretch
of beach anchored by the cities of Pensacola on the west end and Panama
City on the east end. Splashed among these cities are smaller communities
located beach side, bay side, lakeside and everywhere in-between.
Towering sand dunes and pristine coastal lakes create a natural backdrop
for WaterColor, WindMark Beach, and WaterSound — three resort
and residential communities developed by The St. Joe Company.
WaterColor is architecturally designed to portray a Southern coastal
retreat complete with wraparound porches and generous terraces.
Homes in WindMark Beach are designed to encourage Old Florida architecture.
Buildings with deep overhangs and screened verandas are raised off the
ground.
Amid this beauty sits WaterSound, developed and designed to recreate
“a coastal cottage” feel with sleeping porches and high
ceilings that allow cool sea breezes to flow.
Inspired by the
small, waterfront towns of the Caribbean, the community of Rosemary
Beach offers an intricate patchwork of open spaces and intimate courtyards
woven together by sand paths and boardwalks. Unique West Indies-inspired
architecture combines a rich palette of colors with high shuttered
windows and wide balconies that take advantage of the seaside tranquility.
“We know a few things about great umbrella spots on Rosemary
Beach,” says Alda Sileo of Coastal Properties of NW Florida,
Inc., a real estate company that specializes in beach properties.
“But if you like to explore, there are no less than a hundred
public access beaches to visit on the Emerald Coast.”
In the tradition of neighboring towns, the architectural elements
of Alys Beach imbue an uncomplicated organic beauty. The whitewashed
masonry and stucco design of Antigua-style patio homes and California-style
courtyard buildings creates a Bermuda-like ambiance in a community
where all streets lead to the beach.
On the Emerald Coast, architecturally unique seaside communities create
a simplistic urban experience in harmony with nature.
