A SOFTER SIDE OF CONTEMPORARY

Loosely Defined As ‘Art Moderne/Deco,’ A Pastel Palette And Classic, Sinuous Shapes Give This Penthouse A Fashionable Edge

 
 

A brushed-foil mural wall covering rises above a J. Robert Scott sofa in the living area, where a Michael Berman chair, a rounded Wendell Castle cocktail table and a silver-leaf occasional table topped with a polished-nickel lamp from Carriage House complete the grouping.

 
 

“When it comes to designing a home, I don’t have a formula,” L. Reese Cumming says. “I’m more interested in figuring out my clients’ needs, so that the residence is really ‘them’ and not ‘me.’”

And Cumming already had an edge when designing the interior of this 5,000-square-foot penthouse in Bonita Springs, Fla. “I originally met the owner in prep school, so I’ve known her for over 35 years,” he says.
