Leafing through the pages of Florida Design, chances are you’ll see as many seasonal residences as permanent homes. Florida’s appeal worldwide as a vacation destination continuously draws thousands of visitors every year, many of whom wind up purchasing their own private piece of paradise.
For architect Mark Nasrallah, his outside-the-box-attitude was the perfect fit for clients looking to build a winter home in Windermere, Fla. on the outskirts of Orlando. “What came to mind was lots of glass to bring the outside in,” Nasrallah says of the finished product — an 11,200-square-foot combination of Post Modern, Industrial and Art Deco styles defined by a palette of stucco, stone, glass and metal.
Building from the ground up was the path of choice for interior designer Susan Lachance and, Richard Frisina. Rather than featuring the classic Mizner-esque Mediterranean style for their home in South Florida, the designer’s concept recalls the elegance of a classic French manor, whose regal design, both inside and out, provides a strong framework for the couple’s eclectic art collection.
Interior designer Alexandra Karram and architect Dan Carroll were the ideal team to create a unique home for a family of five in Boca Raton, Fla. With a commanding blend of exterior Mediterranean elements and Manhattan chic interiors, Carroll’s concept seamlessly integrates the home’s interior and exterior spaces, while Karram’s crisp and savvy interpretation combines the elegance of Florida’s waterfront living with big city style.
