EDITOR'S MESSAGE

When planning the design of a home, sometimes owners desire a variety of styles for a space that works for any mood. Such is the case in the following homes, where designers mix together an array of elements and demonstrate that a relaxed, casual setting can work alongside contemporary, formal and classic motifs. Collaborating on the cover's 11,185-square-foot, oceanfront estate in Delray Beach, Fla., interior designer Jeffrey Strasser, architect Benjamin Schreier and builder Mark Timothy Pulte created a fresh interpretation of classical Georgian style that speaks to beachside living. By combining classic architectural detailing with casual yet traditional furnishings, the result is an elegant home with a relaxed beach-style vibe. A little bit more north, interior designer Susan Acton marries contemporary with comfortable for one well-traveled homeowner in North Palm Beach, Fla. An ideal place to work, play and live, the 10,000-square-foot home exudes a clean and airy look with global influences, sophisticated finishes and a resort-style pool area. Interior designer Phyllis Taylor, along with her husband and partner, architect William Taylor, shaped a modern interpretation of classic design in an idyllic winter retreat on Key West's Sunset Key. The design duo combined the classic formality of Charleston-style details, such as mahogany finishes, lantern light fixtures and a variety of architectural elements, and merged them with pops of citrus hues and tropical pieces that nod to the home's waterfront locale, resulting in a refined, relaxed island home. The above designers prove that you don't have to fit into just one lifestyle. By merging a mix of styles into a home, one can live the best of all worlds.
