For their waterfront residence in parkland, FLa., owners Hal and Melissa Gould wanted something unique — timelessness laced with soft modernity and a Hollywood Regency sensibility. “We were looking for something that all of our neighbors didn’t have,” Hal says. The nearly 7,800-square-foot property is located on a private cul-de-sac in Heron Estates, a subdivision within Heron Bay known for its custom-built residences.

Once inside, the kitchen conveys a delicate balance of feminine and masculine. A sparkling Walker Zanger backsplash glitters in stark contrast to the room’s black finishes with silvery tile that adds sparkle. Bernhardt counter stools covered in a charcoal-gray herringbone pull up confidently to a large island that centers the space.

Just steps from the kitchen, the family room provides a comfortable seating area for lounging with a white-linen sofa, cocktail ottoman and gray chaise lounge from Kravet. An assortment of lavender and white accent pillows, and a gray-and-cream wool area rug with a simple geometric pattern add color and textural interest to the space.

From floor to ceiling, the detailing in the entry foyer foreshadows the home’s elegance. The eye is immediately drawn to black-and-white Haifa Limestone marble flooring that flows into the living room. The flooring was one of the things the couple was adamant about. “I grew up in New York City and saw a lot of apartment buildings that had this type of flooring,” Hal says. “It’s a classic — it gives you that elegant vibe from the moment you walk in,” Melissa adds.

High gloss columns and rounded archways gracefully frame the formal living room. It offers the perfect vantage point to view the pool, lake and golf course through a soaring floor-to-ceiling window.

The family loves to congregate in the breakfast room, where an elegant yet functional Bernhardt table and chairs ensemble is set in front of a large window to capture lake views. “The space is situated in such a way that you can view the best sunsets,” Hal says.

The living room feels like entering a posh hotel lobby touched by whimsy. A crystal chandelier from Restoration Hardware is surrounded by a circular cage that reigns high above a tufted-velvet sofa accented with posh pillows and a round cocktail ottoman from Century Furniture. Intriguing black-and-white Schumacher wallcovering embellished with mirror-like frames spans either side of a smoked mirrored glass wall. Flanking the fireplace, a pair of custom inset niches designed by Watterworth, feature plush backs of tufted Belgian linen that serve to soften walls dominated by harder edges.

The dining room’s painted black walls and ceiling add drama to the formal space. “This look is so on trend right now — I wanted to contemporize it in such a way that was very soft,” Watterworth says. Offering a striking contrast, a custom white-lacquer dining table is lined with tufted white side chairs and monogrammed host chairs.

Created with a blend of classic glamour and femininity, Melissa’s bath is a luxurious sanctuary. A mix of vintage and modern elements, elegance abounds with a Safavieh tufted ottoman, custom mirrored cabinetry doors and fleur-de-lis-style wallcovering.

This striking waterfront home, with its glamour, classic style and contemporary flair, indulges the family’s love for comfortable yet elegant living that will remain anchored in timelessness for years to come.
