When a professional athlete and his wife set out in search of a secondary home as an off-season retreat, the planned community of Seven Bridges in South Florida appealed to them. With its new shops, dining and nightlife springing up nearby, it proved a great place to live. And when the couple commissioned interior designers Rafaela Simoes and Laila Colvin to style their new 5,000-square-foot home, they knew they had found the perfect team to bring together the complex needs of their young family.

Though the couple liked modern, he preferred monochromatic and she wanted splashes of bold colors. The first impression of the home presents an open airy living space. A dramatic two-story window, fashioned in ethereal sheer linen draperies, is situated beyond a breathtaking light fixture of floating globes, like effervescent bubbles in a champagne glass. Framed with wood paneling, a wall centered with one continuous piece of Marquina black marble gives the space a polished look. Sleek modern furnishings, chrome accents and a textured area rug complete the scene.

Simple and monochromatic, the formal dining room is quietly understated. A smoky gray mirror lines the back wall, while a custom-designed table topped in black quartz surrounded by modern upholstered chairs sits beneath two radiant chandeliers.

Carrara marble flooring flows through to the kitchen featuring a fresh white and gray palette with chrome accents, pops of color and a hint of contrast. An island with a waterfall edge countertop is lined with gray leather-clad barstools, while the adjacent breakfast area is outfitted in punchy reds and bright floral prints. An oval table shapes the casual space beneath a trio of glitzy light pendants.

Elegant and sophisticated, the master bedroom features soft plush textures and cozy seating. Dark wood flooring is rich and complementary to the shimmering wall covering. The upholstered headboard wall and a handmade area rug warm up the space, while a hint of purple adds a touch of vibrancy to the gray scale room.

A living wall adds an unexpected organic twist in the family room. Here, a deep-seated sofa in a soft gray hue and a glossy white-lacquer cocktail table face the wood-paneled media wall. Crisp white walls provide a gallery backdrop for Woman With Butterflies by photographer Jaime Ibarra.

Designing a home for a family with different styles is a challenge to any designer, and one that Simoes and Colvin took in stride. Using neutral modern furnishings with bold pops of color and shiny chrome accents, the design team was able to transform a traditional space into modern living, providing this young couple with a home that suits both their personalities quite well.
