famous by Frank Lloyd
Wright in the early 1900s.
The couple liked this style because they wanted
a home that was unpretentious and comfortable for
them and their four children, designer Michael
P. Koontz explains. Pokey and her husband have
deep roots in the area and wanted this house to reflect
the natural environment.
A velvety-green expanse of lawn provides a scenic
backdrop for the interior, in which rough-hewn textures
and nature-inspired motifs intermingle with refined
European and American antiques. A palette of soft
green, cream and gold with touches of gray prevails
throughout.
We wanted the interior to complement the outdoor
environment, Pokey says.
In the Great Room, a series of windows enhance its
spaciousness. A seagrass area rug anchors the seating,
which includes sofas covered in golden-beige damask,
lounge chairs dressed in a diamond-patterned matelassé,
and antique armchairs. I like a very uncluttered
look, Pokey says. I dont like a
lot of stuff around me. I want to walk into a room
and see open space.
Also sun-filled and spacious, the dining area features
a distressed alder-wood table surrounded by upholstered
chairs with wood frames.
I made a lot of decisions and started buying
some of the antiques and furnishings
