“The couple liked this style because they wanted a home that was unpretentious and comfortable for them and their four children,” designer Michael P. Koontz explains. “Pokey and her husband have deep roots in the area and wanted this house to reflect the natural environment.”
A velvety-green expanse of lawn provides a scenic backdrop for the interior, in which rough-hewn textures and nature-inspired motifs intermingle with refined European and American antiques. A palette of soft green, cream and gold with touches of gray prevails throughout.
“We wanted the interior to complement the outdoor environment,” Pokey says.
In the Great Room, a series of windows enhance its spaciousness. A seagrass area rug anchors the seating, which includes sofas covered in golden-beige damask, lounge chairs dressed in a diamond-patterned matelassé, and antique armchairs. “I like a very uncluttered look,” Pokey says. “I don’t like a lot of stuff around me. I want to walk into a room and see open space.”
Also sun-filled and spacious, the dining area features a distressed alder-wood table surrounded by upholstered chairs with wood frames.
