ABOVE: An antique fruitwood piano ornamented with acanthus leaves basks in a sun-filled corner of the Great Room. Designed in the mid-19th century by J. Gunther, the piano won first place at the Paris Exposition of 1861.

The lanai, on the other hand, is the hub of activity. Built with a limestone wall, a slate-tile floor and a wood-beamed ceiling, the room reflects the rustic charm of old country homes. For Pokey, the lanai ranks as her favorite room because of its links to her family’s property. Most of the limestone was quarried from the land on which the home is built, and the wood for the ceiling came from an old barn on another property.
Like the lanai, the patio and pool area makes the most of the land’s natural beauty. Framed by lush palms and ferns, a waterfall of moss-covered limestone rocks gently spills into a sparkling blue lagoon — truly an oasis within an oasis.
