ucked away in an exclusive, lakefront enclave near Orlando, an Italianate
home captures the feel of a centuries-old Tuscan winery. Its owner, wine connoisseur, gourmet cook, antique collector
and arts patron, is a true "Renaissance man," designer Peter Ferwerda says. "He is astute in a variety of areas, both
professionally and personally. His superb taste and amiable nature were the driving forces behind this project, and its
success can be attributed to his involvement on every level of decision-making."
When the owner first
approached builder Rial Jones, he had a definite idea as to how he wanted to customize one of the company's showcase
homes to his tastes. "He wanted a similar design, but on a grander scale and with a more authentic look," Jones
recalls. "He was particularly fond of the old villas that dot the Tuscan hilltops, and had envisioned that style of
house in a lakefront setting."
To take full advantage of
the property's lake frontage, the main house is oriented toward the water, while the courtyard, separate garage and
guesthouse face the front of the property. "Being right on Lake Sheen is a big plus, because it is one of the prettiest
in the Butler Chain," Jones says. "Siting the house in this manner gives nearly every room a grand lake view."
