hen Anne Folsom Smith was asked to design a model in Longboat Key's
exclusive Vizcaya building, she never dreamed that its buyer would commission her to design a larger home just a few
years later. "We were thrilled that she liked what we had done with the model, which she purchased as a vacation
retreat," Smith says. "The place became so popular with her circle of friends and extended family that she soon opted
for a larger apartment with more flexible space for entertaining."
The owner loved the
contemporary, high-style look Smith had created for the model, but this time around she wanted something a bit
different something more eclectic and romantic.
Beginning with a raw shell,
Smith seized the opportunity to conceive an entirely new layout one that deviated from the standard rectilinear
plan found in most apartments. "We were starting from square one just marble floors and the bare walls. And the
walls even came down," Smith says.
The result is a unique space
full of undulating curves, serpentine shapes and fluid lines. "By deleting nearly all the hard angles and straight
lines, we achieved a softer, sensuous look," Smith says. A neutral palette accented with black and metallic hues allows
the condominium's fine architectural details to speak for themselves.
