et for the 1950s, the time machine hurtles through space. Seconds later, one is standing inside Pat and Jim Cole's Delray Beach home. Furnishings by renowned mid-20th-century designers, such as Ray and Charles Eames, Eero Saarinen, Paul McCobb, James Mont, and Harvey Probber, fill the rooms, confirming the trip through time.

But the reality is that there is no time machine, and the year is 2002. The retro setting, nevertheless, is very real in the Coles' home, where furniture from the 1950s shapes the look of their newly built house in Mizner Country Club.

Having recently relocated to South Florida from New York, the Coles previously owned galleries in Soho and Bridgehampton that specialized in mid-century modern furnishings. Their Soho showroom provided props for Martha Stewart and Ralph Lauren commercials and for such blockbuster movies as "Vanilla Sky" and "A Beautiful Mind."
