ABOVE: Grass-cloth wall covering from Donghia adds to the master bedroom’s earthy, natural style. An ebonized-ash bedside chest works in concert with the masculine theme, while an amber frosted-glass lamp offers a soft touch.

The colors and striped pattern of the bedskirt complement the striped fabric on the lounge chair.
The subdued palette of the main living areas reappears in the den. Here, an L-shaped sofa sports a muted goldenrod chenille. “I chose an L-shaped sofa/bed for this room so that it could function as both a den and a second guestroom,” Berenson says. Grass cloth covers the walls and Berber carpet warms the floor — adding to the room’s textural mix.

Grass cloth also blankets the walls of the master bedroom and entry, where an original etching on paper by Jim Dine appropriately illustrates a robe colored in blue, yellow, orange and pink. Inside, a neutral scheme and dark wood furniture, such as an ebonized-ash bedside chest and cabinet, compose a masculine retreat. Cottons, silks and velvets come together on the bed, whose headboard features a wing-like design. An amber frosted-glass lamp with a linen shade softens the lines of the furnishings.
