island where Don and Erika Wallace built a vacation
retreat. Their home, which appears on our cover, captures
the spirit of Key West’s historic “conch
style.” Inside, the look is “casual, colorful
and easy,” says designer Phyllis Taylor, who
combined comfortable furnishings with unique antiques
in a lively seafaring theme.
While the past influenced Taylor’s design, the
future inspired the ultramodern penthouse conceived
by the design team at Alfred Karram II, Inc. “We
used new technologies and applications in hardware,
electronics, lighting and fabric,” Alfred Karram
Jr. says. Cool and cutting-edge, this residence is
a showcase of innovation.
A Key Biscayne condominium designed by Gustavo Angeli
radiates cosmopolitan verve with its mix of contemporary
styles. Throughout the interior, painted canvases
with Art Deco motifs on doors and walls, create colorful
elements of surprise.
Classic details imbue a Fisher Island vacation home
with a sense of grandeur. Architect Cathy D. Zukerman
impeccably defined the interior with columns, coffers
and crown molding, providing a timeless backdrop for
designer Laura Sparrow’s traditional interpretation.
Drawing on their clients’ respect for history
and antiques, architect Spencer Goliger and designer
Kahleen Smith capture the essence of Palm Beach style.
“Both the exterior and interior themes speak
to a timeworn elegance,” Smith says.
From the height of sophistication to low-key moods,
this issue offers something for everyone.
