When Ken and Susan Richardson moved from Illinois to Florida, they decided to renovate a home on the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale to take advantage of waterfront living at its best. At the same time, they desired a home similar to the one they had left behind. “We wanted something like the French Provençal style we had in Illinois — warm and homey with lots of wood,” says Ken, a developer who oversaw the home’s transformation.
To lay the foundation for the interior, the Richardsons used reclaimed hardwood flooring throughout.

Ken also salvaged old architectural elements and incorporated them into the three-story home.
The couple then enlisted the expertise of designer Perla Lichi, whose interpretation of French Provençal style takes into account the home’s commanding presence. “This home was built on a grand scale, so I used color and large pieces to achieve the right illusion,” Lichi says.
Envisioning a soft European look, Lichi chose a palette of red hues, from pale dusty rose to deep wine, which she complemented with slate and green accents.
