ABOVE: Located on the second floor,
the card room features several architectural points
of interest, including a column of niches in which the
owners display their collection of Roman, North African,
Mesopotamian and Apulian pottery. An oilon-linen by
Rilke illustrates the interior of a farmhouse.
An
ensemble of unique items further defines this
eclectic vignette, such as the elephant saddle that
has been transformed into a console, the natural dyed
goatskin armchair, and the antique tea caddy and architectural
remnants on the console. “In this space,
I’ve collected an interesting group of diverse
things that work together,”
Ruben
says, referring to the mix of primitive and contemporary
furnishings.
“Each piece alone is worth a look, but taken
together they make quite a statement.”
