For the second consecutive year, design professionals throughout the state of Florida converged on the Miami Design District for the Midnight Affair Design Excellence Awards. Hosted by Dacra, developers of the Miami Design District, and Florida’s interior design professional organizations, the event is the only statewide interior design competition.

Joining forces as sponsors once again were the American Society of Interior Designers, the International Furnishings and Design Association, the International Interior Design Association, the Interior Design Guild Foundation, the Interior Design Associations Foundation, and The Bud Merle Foundation. Other key sponsors, including Florida Design, also generously contributed to the success of the event.

Comprising 12 categories, the awards ceremony recognized design firms for their residential and commercial installations, as well as individuals for their career accomplishments. Joyce Shore received The Bud Merle Foundation’s prestigious “Buddy Award,” which honors an individual designer whose career achievements and community service demonstrate outstanding professionalism and leadership. Shore, who owns Joyce Shore Interior Designer, Inc. in Fort Lauderale, has worked with residential and business clients in South Florida for more than 20 years.

Janice Young, of Janice Young & Associates in Jacksonville, and Michael A. Shiff, of Michael A. Shiff & Associates in Fort Lauderdale, shared the Legislative Service Award bestowed by the Interior Design Associations Foundation.

Dual winners also captured the limelight in other categories: Levine, Calderin & Associates in Miami and Rene Gonzalez Architect in Miami in the condominium/apartment category, and Fanny Haim & Associates in North Miami Beach and Echeverria Design Group in Coral Gables in the hospitality category.
