DESIGNING WITH BLUE

Paula Norkin, of Interiors by Paula in Boca Raton, blends blue florals and checks to instill her breakfast area with a cheerful feel. The blue glassware comes from Mexico.

A bold blue wall provides a dramatic backdrop for the den/media room of this vacation retreat renovated by Anne Ruben, of Anne Ruben Interiors, Inc. in Boca Raton.

The late Robert Searl chose a blue-and-white fabric with a parrot motif to cover this club chair in a Key West home. Photography by Peter Paige, Harrington Park, NJ.

Inspired by the blue skies and ocean, Brett Cohen, of International Creative Designs in Fort Lauderdale, dressed a modern swivel chair in cobalt blue.

Nautical blue makes a striking statement in this interior designed by William Diamond and Anthony Baratta, of Diamond & Baratta in New York, NY.

Barbara Murtagh Nash, of Blue Sky Environments in Coral Springs, uses cornflower blue to give this master bedroom sitting area an English sensibility.

Living in South Florida, it’s easy to see why designers use the color blue as a dominant hue in so many interior schemes. Beautiful blue skies and waterways provide endless inspiration for furniture, fabrics, flooring and more. On this page, blue comes to life on everything from seating to a decorative screen and a stained-glass window.

What shade of blue are you? Cobalt, cornflower or wedgwood, navy or baby blue. Whatever the hue, blue complements any room, from delightful breakfast areas to contemporary media rooms and Key West-style homes. Blue accessories, such as glassware and decorative bowls, can add just the right touch of color, while pendant fixtures, like those shown on this page, can punctuate a space with exclamation points of blue.
