of the homes in this issue are truly unique, but several
have one thing in common: They all represent a collaborative
effort between the owners, architects, designers and
builders. Even more interesting to note is that two
of the homes involved husband-and-wife partnerships.
One such couple is architect William C. Taylor and
interior designer Phyllis Taylor, who worked hand
in hand to instill an oceanfront penthouse with the
essence of French Art Deco style. Owners Fredi and
Robert Consolo’s art collection and accessories
inspired Phyllis’ Deco interpretation, while
French ocean liners from the 1930s provided the muse
for William’s architectural detailing.
Pooling their building and design expertise, Bob and
Lauree Simmons teamed up with architect Stuart Brenner
to create a palatial estate in Manalapan for owners
Denny and Betty Ryan. The home’s exquisite architecture,
furniture and finishes capture the feel of Old World
Florida in the 1920s.
In Ponte Vedra Beach, a couple wanted their new cottage
to pay tribute to shingle-style architecture and incorporate
the latest in green technology. To accomplish those
objectives, they turned to architect Richard Skinner
and his team, and designers Juliana Catlin and Karen
Lukaszewski. Together, they conceived a home that
embraces the past and the present.
Taken with Boca Grande’s natural setting, a Connecticut
couple joined forces with architect Brian Kowalchuk
and designer Chelon F. Rieniets to build a winter
retreat with an organic quality. Throughout the interior,
cypress wood covers the ceiling and walls, imbuing
the beachfront sanctuary with warmth and character.
