This issue makes a splash with innovative
designs that treat patio and pool areas as extensions
of the interior. Because pools play a prominent role
in the Florida lifestyle, they are often the springboard
for a home’s design.
When planning an estate home in Lake Butler Sound, architect
Daniel F. DeLong and builder/developers Scott Green
and Rial Jones positioned the floor plan so the pool,
lanai and summer kitchen would open to the living area.
Bringing the vibrant hues of the outdoor furniture inside,
designers Dan Miner and Ron Nowfel conceived an interior
that captures the imagination.
At The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Joseph F. Brennan’s
company built a Mediterranean-style villa whose facing
loggias form a private courtyard for a classically styled
pool. The native foliage surrounding the courtyard and
pool melds with the interior’s eclectic traditional
design by Lisa Erdmann.
In quintessential Palm Beach style, designers Keithley
Miller, Mimi McMakin and Brooke Huttig created a sun-kissed,
Old World design in a 1920s estate. Like many of the
island’s venerable homes, this one features a
trellis lanai off the courtyard and pool area.
Landscape architect Mario Nievera refurbished the grounds,
making it a lush, tropical paradise.
Through the collaborative efforts of architect Clifford
M. Scholz, interior designer Perla Lichi and builder
Michael K. Walker, a couple realized their dream of
a palatial Venetian villa on the Gulf Coast. Not surprisingly,
the canals of Venice inspired the patio and pool area.
And designer Cheree Roberts fell in love with her house
because of its Frank Lloyd Wright feel and wall of sliding-glass
doors that take in a scenic view of the pool and Fort
Lauderdale’s New River.
With these stories and more inside, you’ll want
to dive right in.
