| Legends and legacies
make their mark on this issue of Florida Design. Golf
Hall of Fame legend Raymond Floyd and wife Maria hit
a hole in one with their golf cottage in Old Palm
Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens. Award-winning developer
WCI Communities, Inc. built the community as well
as the golf cottages, one of which the Floyds use
for friends and family to enjoy well-appointed golf
getaways. Matt Lauer, Sean Connery and Freddie Couples
are planning a visit this year. Looking to Italianate
architecture and Mizner details, WCI architect Marco
Ruiz designed a Mediterranean exterior in keeping
with the rest of the community. Inside, Scott Snyder
outfitted the cottage with plump, inviting furniture
to create a “kick-your-feet-up” kind of
elegance.
Preserving the legacy of one’s family ranks
high on the list of two others we profile in this
issue. Artist Alexandre Renoir, great-grandson of
Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and interior designer and author
Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, cousin of Sir Winston
Churchill, both pay tribute to their heritage with
their own creative expressions. While Alexandre paints
Impressionistic-style works that reflect the beauty
and vibrancy of nature, Lady Spencer-Churchill penned
her newest book, “Blenheim and the Churchill
Family,” which recounts her family’s history
residing in one of England’s finest examples
of Baroque architecture.
On the topic of art and design, we went north to
Palm Beach and covered some of the most noteworthy
art and antique shows, including Palm Beach3, Palm
Beach! America’s International Fine Art &
Antique Fair, and the Palm Beach Jewelry & Antique
Show. Together, this issue offers a review of everything
for collectors of fine art and design.
