| Summer makes a splash in this issue of Florida Design. When I think of this hottest of seasons, visions of islands and water come to mind. And wherever you are in Florida, water is never far away ‹ whether on the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, a bay or a river.
In Jacksonville, designer Larry Wilson maximizes the water views of a 7,500-square-foot condominium overlooking the St. Johns River. Owner, real estate developer and yachtsman Phil Phillips was born and raised on the water, and wanted his and wife Kitty¹s home to reflect that. Working with team designer Joanna Mulhall, Wilson combined four units into one to create a window-lined, loft-like space that showcases the river views from every room.
A sprawling estate on Tampa Bay echoes the feel and flavor of the British West Indies with rich woods, island-inspired prints and natural elements.
"We used weathered patinas inside and out," designer Sandra Chancey says.
"The mood is very windswept and sun-washed" - an inviting setting for a young family of five.
In addition to the above locales, Florida Design journeys throughout the rest of the state to Palm Beach Gardens, Boca Raton and Key Biscayne on the east coast, and to Lakeland in Central Florida.
Outside of Florida, we head west to the Baja peninsula, where Mexico¹s One&Only Palmilla resort appears like a modern-day oasis in the desert.
Situated where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, this five-start resort features unbelievable water views.
