The white-glove services at the new and luxurious PS terminal at Miami International Airport are as jet-set as VIP perks go, but it’s the building’s chic mid-century modern decor that has design lovers flying high. Located in what was once Pan Am’s training headquarters for pilots and flight attendants (a 1960s-era structure recognized as a historic site by the Miami-Dade County Preservation Board), the 34,000-square-foot space’s vintage-tinted style is the work of L.A. designer Cliff Fong.

Throughout the terminal’s public spaces and private suites, his design details include Pan Am insignias, gold paneling, terrazzo, marble, smoked glass, and bold patterns. Outside in the enclosed courtyard, dusty rose chaise loungers and parasols sit near a mosaic reflecting pool that’s been carefully restored.

Ceramic art by Miami artist Nina Surel, including a stoneware bas-relief mural of interlocking tiles, adds to the visual experience. “It’s a curated approach to design that’s not common in commercial spaces,” says Fong. “Our strategy was to lean into the building’s heritage along the nostalgia and romance of Miami’s regional style.”
