At the new Jones & Jeffries Gallery (751 12th Avenue South) in Naples, the mantra is “Contemporary Art with a Coastal Soul,” but owner and director Jeannie Polisuk doesn’t want that statement taken too literally.
“It doesn’t mean paintings of the beach or the ocean exclusively,” she says. “It’s art that’s about light, color, movement, atmosphere, and the feeling of being near the water. Our works have a ‘coastal soul,’ but they are contemporary, sophisticated, and designed to live beautifully in today’s interiors.”
In fact, J&J represents a diverse range of work, including abstract, figurative, and landscape painting from artists based in the United States, Canada, and Europe. “What connects the work is less about a particular medium or style and more about the feeling it evokes,” says Polisuk, whose own paintings are also exhibited at the gallery. “Some artists tend to respond directly to the coast through their subject matter, while others capture that sensibility through color, light, texture, and movement. The common thread is that the work has a coastal sensibility without being traditional ‘coastal art.’”
Visitors can see for themselves this fall season and into winter through the gallery’s programming, which includes a group show in November and several special events before and after that showing.
Beyond the exhibitions and gatherings, Polisuk hopes that Jones & Jeffries becomes a hub for community. “I want the gallery to be a place where people gather, meet artists, hear them speak about their work, and engage with a creative network,” she says. “I want it to be a place that inspires.”
